How to identify a good Cachaça

The cachaça is produced by a traditional process and it's one of the tastiest distillated drinks in the world, with a rich and pleasant aroma.

Visually, a good cachaça must be transparent and shiny, once dark means a low quality product. When aged in barrels, it gets a slight shade from the wood, becoming softly yellowish. The cachaça is normally served in a glass with a flat, transparent and colorless wall. When it's served, the cachaça should present small bubbles, which together, should make a "bead neckless" on the edges of the glass. The same should happen when someone shakes the bottle.

Turning the glass so as to wet the glass' edges, it should appear a fine oiled layer on the internal wall of the glass, which will drain making wavy shapes. The quality of the cachaça depends on the duration of this wavy shapes, the longer it takes, the better is the quality of that cachaça. The analysis of smell determines a fruity, alcoholic, acid and sweetish aroma, but none of them is emphasized. A strong alcoholic aroma is a characteristic of the industrialized cachaça.

When a quality Cachaça is ingested, it goes down smoothly, without burning, giving the feeling of a pleasant sensation of energy and warmth.
